You make a payment, receive an SMS, and carry on with your day. Repeat that a few times a day and, by the end of the month, the question is familiar: where did my money actually go?
Most people do not need another lecture about budgeting. They need a record they can trust—without turning every coffee, cab ride, bill, or grocery trip into homework.
Manual tracking is a good idea that rarely survives real life.
Expense apps often begin with a promise of clarity and end with an abandoned spreadsheet or an empty dashboard. The friction is small in the moment, but relentless: open an app, add the amount, choose a category, remember what the payment was for. Do it again tomorrow. And the next day.
The alternative can feel just as uncomfortable. Many services ask people to hand over bank credentials, send transaction data to a cloud account, or accept a complicated system before they have seen any value from it.
The trade-off people are given
Track everything manually
Private, but tedious enough that consistency disappears.
Hand data to another service
Convenient, but requires trust before the product has earned it.
We thought there should be a third option.
For many Android users, a transaction already creates a useful signal: a bank SMS. It may include the amount, merchant, direction of payment, reference, and time. The useful question is not how to ask people to enter it all again. It is how to help them use that signal while keeping the data on their own phone.
That question led us to 1Tap.
Introducing 1Tap: a local-first expense tracker for Android.
1Tap is designed to turn eligible bank transaction SMS messages into a personal transaction ledger. With the user’s permission, it scans SMS locally on the device, extracts supported transaction details, and lets the user review, correct, categorize, and understand their spending.
- Local processing: transaction parsing and storage happen on the device.
- User choice: SMS access is optional; manual transaction entry is available without it.
- Useful context: transactions can be categorized, corrected, and supplemented with notes or payment methods.
- History when it helps: during setup, users can choose to scan eligible past SMS messages to build an initial ledger.
How it works today.
You choose access.
Enable SMS access or begin with manual transactions. The choice stays with you.
1Tap reads locally.
Eligible bank transaction messages are parsed and matched against your existing ledger.
You stay in control.
Edit merchant details, categories, dates, payment modes, and notes when the automatic result needs help.
Privacy is part of the product, not a footnote.
Financial information deserves a higher bar. 1Tap is built without a cloud account or bank login for its core tracking experience. It does not request Android’s internet permission, and its local database lives on the user’s device. That does not make the product perfect; it makes the boundary clear.
SMS formats vary between banks and change over time, so parsing will never be magic. That is why correction and manual entry are first-class parts of the product—not an afterthought.
We are building it with real users, carefully.
1Tap is currently in closed Android beta. We are learning which transaction messages need better support, where categories need more nuance, and what people actually need to feel more in control of their spending. We would rather be precise about what works today than promise features that are not yet there.
